Acupuncture for women’s health

Here is a selection of conditions affecting women’s health that acupuncture can support. Contact Janine Jones for a free consultation if you require more information.

Fertility

You may be planning to get pregnant or you may already be receiving medical treatment such as Clomid, IUI,or IVF. There is a growing body evidence that acupuncture can enhance fertility. It does this by regulating hormones and so regulating the menstrual cycle and the stress hormones that affect implantation. Other effects include increasing blood flow to the reproductive organs, and modulating the immune response.

As every person is different, Janine will work with you to ensure your treatment is tailored to you.

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)

You may have discovered you have PCOS whilst trying to get pregnant.

Acupuncture has been found to be a safe and effective treatment for PCOS. It is thought it may have a role in increasing blood flow to the ovaries, reducing ovarian volume and the number of ovarian cysts, regulating blood sugar levels, reducing stress hormones. Weight gain and weight loss may be issues associated with and affecting PCOS. As well as giving you acupuncture, Janine, as a Physiotherapist, can offer you lifestyle and exercise advice.

Painful Periods

Acupuncture can be used to treat period pains, reducing and dispensing with the need for pain killing drugs. Indeed, Janine’s first experience of acupuncture was for painful periods. So successful was it, it determined her to train to be an acupuncturist!

Menopause

The menopause is defined as the end of the last menstrual period. The change in hormone levels during the perimenopause and menopause, particularly the decline in levels of oestrogen, can cause acute menopausal symptoms, the most common of which are hot flushes and night sweats which can be debilitating and make life miserable for the sufferer.

Some women also report vaginal dryness and psychological symptoms, including tiredness, sleep disturbances, mood swings, forgetfulness and loss of libido. Acupuncture can help these symptoms by regulating hormones, and can increase relaxation and reduce tension by modulating mood increasing endorphin levels (the brain’s ‘happy’ chemicals).

I have always had irregular periods and had been trying to get pregnant with no success. I had read that acupuncture helps with a lot of problems so I thought I’d give it a try. Janine was recommended to me by friend. I had a course of acupuncture and after three months my periods were regulated. I have just finished the course – so watch this space!

GD

I was diagnosed with PCOS after having no periods for 7 months. I searched the internet for a way to help myself without using drugs and found the research that Elisabet Stener- Victorin had been doing regarding the successful treatment of PCOS with acupuncture. I found Janine thorough the British Medical Acupuncture Society as I wanted someone who knew about medical treatments too. As well as having the acupuncture Janine suggested I make other changes to my diet and lifestyle. I believe all this contributed to my periods returning.

TS

I have been having acupuncture with Janine since coming off HRT and my menopausal hot flushes and night sweats returned. The acupuncture has reduced them considerably. Janine’s manner and her lovely clinic makes the experience comfortable and relaxing so all round I highly recommend her.
